How does the reservation process work?
You can make a reservation through our website or our call centre. All payments must be made by credit card. At the end of the online reservation process a summary of your itinerary will be sent you by email. Once the availability for your request has been checked, you will receive a confirmation voucher with the instructions for completing your reservation.
This voucher must be presented to the local rental company to enable you to collect your car hire.


How do I know that my online car hire reservation has been confirmed?
Your reservation is confirmed after paying the rental price within three days of receipt of the booking voucher.


Are there any age restrictions on hiring a car from Policardo?
The age requirements depend on the local rental city and type of car. In some cases, there could be a surcharge for certain groups (e.g. young drivers under the age of 21 or 25). Further information can be found in the general terms and conditions of the rental city.



PROCEDURE


Can the vehicle be driven by someone apart the hirer?
Our insurance package is only valid for the hirer named in the rental agreement. Additional drivers can be included in the rental agreement, but any charge for inclusion is at the discretion of the local car hire company.


What documents do I need when collecting my rental car at Policardo?
You must have a driving license in your name from your home country Type 3 and/or Type B (Euro-Standard). The licence must be valid in Italy. Licences that are not valid in Italy must be accompanied by an international licence. Policardo requires the driver to have held a driving licence for at least one year. In addition, the driver must present a valid passport/identity card and a credit card in his or her name. A driving licence and identification must also be presented for any additional drivers.


Will a deposit be debited from my credit card when I collect my rental vehicle?
Yes, please enquire as to the amount of the deposit when collecting your car hire. Depending on the city station, the deposit will either be assigned to or debited from your credit card.


How much is the deposit?
Please inquire as to the amount of the security deposit when picking up your rental car. Depending on the city station, one of two things could occur.  Either credit card will be charged the amount of the security deposit and later refunded once the car is returned in acceptiable condition, or the rental company will keep your credit card information until the car is returned.?


Should I check the condition of the rental car before leaving the rental station?
Yes, you should check that the condition of the rental vehicle is as stated on the contract. If there is obvious damage to the vehicle, which is not stated in the contract, you should inform an employee at the station and ask him to examine the vehicle. Any damage identified can then be noted on the rental agreement. This will help to ensure that there are no problems when you return the vehicle.


Is it possible to have the hire car delivered to our hotel or harbour?
In general, hotel or harbour deliveries are offered by Policardo and possible for a delivery fee. Please find further information in the local terms of hire while booking.


Is there a limit on the mileage included in the price?
The quoted price includes unlimited mileage.


What will happen if my rented vehicle breaks down or is involved in an accident?
Policardo offer their customers a emergency breakdown service. In the event of damage, it is imperative inform the rental agency immediately and when you return the hired vehicle, ensure that the car hire agency compiles a damage report that is to be signed by the local car hire company and by you.
Please read the rental terms and conditions carefully when collecting the vehicle. Repairs can only be carried out with authorisation from Policardo.


Can I extend the rental period?
If you decide during the rental period that you would like to keep the hire car longer, please speak with the local car hire station to see if it is possible, as the vehicle could already be booked by another customer.


What happens in case of late or too early drop-off?
Late return can affect the rental price. Please read the rental terms and conditions carefully when collecting the vehicle from the local station. Please note that the insurance cover is only valid for the time period stated in the rental agreement. No refund will be given if a rented vehicle is returned earlier than stated in the rental agreement.


Do I have to return the vehicle with a full tank?
Listed below are various options, depending on the local station:
1. Empty to empty - i.e. the fuel tank is empty when the vehicle is collected and is to be returned empty.
2. Full to full - i.e. the tank is full when the vehicle is collected and is to be returned full.
3. Full to empty - i.e. the fuel tank is full when the vehicle is collected and is to be returned empty. In this case, the full tank of fuel must be paid for in advance, on collection.

Please note which of the above options is quoted in your car hirestation rental contract in order to avoid any extra costs.


Can I return the vehicle to the rental station, outside normal office hours?
Yes, it is possible to return your vehicle when the local car hire station office is closed. Ask exactly how this works locally when collecting your vehicle. The customer is, however, responsible for the rented vehicle until it has been checked by an employee of the local car hire company.


Should I check the condition of the vehicle before returning it?
Yes, and in the event of any new damage (that was not listed in the report on collection), you should inform an employee of the local car hire and arrange a joint assessment of the damage.

What kind of vehicles does Policardo offer?
CarDelMar offers a wide range of models and makes: from the small, economical models and sports cars to large family cars and minibuses.


Can I choose the vehicle model I want?
Only the vehicle group can be booked in advance. The vehicles shown on our website are typical examples of the size of vehicle offered in the different groups. The vehicle model cannot be guaranteed in advance.

Where can I find the prices?
You can check all offers and vehicle availability at the Policardo website without having to complete a reservation.


Are the prices updated on a daily basis?
Policardo always offers daily updated prices. This means that the price that you pay is the price valid on the day of booking. 


Are there any additional costs besides the quoted price?
All of our packages include:
   - unlimited mileage; 
   - third party liability;
   - airport taxes and surcharges;
all local taxes and charges, if voucher does not mention otherwise.
Additional charges might apply locally due to extras such as roof racks, child seats, additional insurances or one-way charges etc. In regards to this please see the terms & conditions of the local car hire station on your voucher.

Which methods of payment are accepted by Policardo
Online reservation: Policardo accepts major credit cards (Master Card and Visa).


INSURANCE


Is third party vehicle insurance included in the price?
Every vehicle rented by Policardo has, in accordance with legal requirements of the country of rental, compulsory third party vehicle insurance for personal injury, property damage and pecuniary loss. This insurance cover is included, without surcharge, in the price of the car hire. The liability cover is dependent on the terms and conditions offered by the local car hire station. Further information on this can be found in the terms and conditions of the local car hire station. Attention should be paid to the information on the voucher regarding the amount of liability cover provided.


Under what circumstances would I be liable for damages?
Damage due to failure to observe the general terms and conditions of rental, especially damage caused by driving on unmade roads.
In cases of wilful misconduct or gross negligence, particularly where capabilit is impaired due to alcohol, illegal drugs or medication.
Loss of or damage to the car keys. 
Damage to the tyres, glass, roof, chassis or oil sump.
In all cases where the local insurance station refuses to meet the claim.
The excess payable under a package with excess will not be refunded in the case of damage.
Loss resulting from the theft of personal belongings left in the car hire and consequential loss e.g. vehicle recovery costs, hotel costs etc. and the loss of personal belongings.
 
If the local car hire station only offers cover with excess, they will retain the agreed excess amount in the event of damage; this sum will be deducted from your deposit. The excess will be held by the local car hire company and charged to your credit card. The amount of excess differs from city to city. Please note the regulations issued by the local car hire station. In the case of damage, the excess amount will be deducted from your deposit and charged to your credit card. Consequential costs such as vehicle recovery charges, hotels, telephone charges etc are not generally refunded.


What about additional insurance?
CDW Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) reduces the renter's liability from the total cost of the damage, to an excess amount where applicable unless the renter intentionally causes the damage is under the influence of drink or drugs or uses the vehicle in a prohibited or negligent way e.g. driving off main roads or hiring to other parties. CDW covers liability for damage to the vehicle or its parts and accessories. Windscreens, tyres, under carriage, replacement locks, replacement keys and towing charges are not covered under the insurance policy. Other exclusions may apply & can differ between rental companies, so we recommend checking with the local car hire station at the time of collecting the vehicle what the exclusions are.

Theft Waiver (TW) reduces the renter's liability in the event of theft or damages caused due to theft of the vehicle to an excess amount where applicable. Negligence connected with the theft of the vehicle may lead to the local car hire company requiring the full amount for the cost of the vehicle.

Fee for young drivers: Certain stations require an extra fee for young drivers (e.g. under the ages of 21, 25) to be paid. Please take note of the Terms of Lease to see if this pertains to your rental.

Additional Driver: All potential drivers of the car hire must be included in the rental agreement. This is to ensure the insurance cover and liability are valid. Depending on the station of rental, there may be a charge for the inclusion of an additional driver.


CANCELLATION AND AMENDMENT


How to cancel or modify a booking and what is the cost?
You can cancel your booking with Policardo up to 10 days before the start of the hire period. The cancellation can be made via our customer service +39 0923 912844.

Customers remain liable to pay the full rental price for cancellations made within 10 days before the start of the reserved rental period or upon failing to pick up the vehicle (no show). This also includes cases, in which the customer does not comply with the rental conditions of the local car rental station.

Please Note: Should the vehicle not be picked up on the date and time stipulated, the availability of the vehicle cannot be guaranteed as the local car rental station has the right to otherwise reserve the vehicle for hire.  In this case there is no right to a refund of the cost of the car rental.


Is there any cancellation protection?
You can cancel the reservation up to 10 days before the beginning of the scheduled rental for free. Extra cancellation protection cannot be taken out.
